No, the ASPCA lists calatheas as non-toxic to cats and dogs. That makes this prayer plant a safe choice for a home with pets.
How do you care for a Calathea Compactstar?
Place it in a bright spot out of direct sun and keep the soil lightly moist with soft water or rainwater. Don't let it dry out. From April to September, give houseplant feed at half strength every two weeks.
Why is my Calathea Compactstar getting brown edges?
Brown edges are usually caused by dry air, the soil drying out or hard tap water. Ideally water with rainwater or soft water and keep the soil lightly moist. Higher humidity, for example from occasional misting, also helps.
How big does a Calathea Compactstar get?
The Compactstar grows densely and stays fairly compact, as the name suggests. At XXLplant you buy it 80 cm tall in a ø19 cm pot, measured including the nursery pot. It grows more in width than in height.
Why does my Calathea fold up its leaves?
Calatheas move their leaves with the light: in the evening they fold up slightly and in the morning they open again. This is normal behaviour and not a sign of disease. If the leaves curl up during the day, it's probably getting too little water or the air is too dry.
Where should you put a Calathea Compactstar?
Choose a bright spot without direct sun, out of draughts and between 18 and 24 °C. Below 16 °C it gets too cold. A bathroom with daylight or a spot in the living room a little way back from the window works well.
