Details

Prayer plant with velvety, dark green leaves and a wine-red underside. A full floor plant for the living room or bedroom that's safe for cats and dogs.

Species: Calathea warscewiczii · Height: 90 cm (including nursery pot) · Pot size: ø24 cm

The prayer plant Calathea warscewiczii has velvety, dark green leaves with a lighter pattern along the midrib and a wine-red underside. This specimen is 90 cm tall including the grow pot and sits in a pot of ø24 cm.

With its full, large leaves, it's an atmospheric floor plant for the living room or bedroom. Give it a bright spot out of direct sun and keep the soil evenly and lightly moist with lukewarm, lime-free water. Dry air near a radiator causes brown edges, so a spot a little further from it works better. This plant is not toxic to cats and dogs. It comes in the grow pot; you choose a decorative pot separately.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

Frequently asked questions about Calathea warscewiczii

The questions we're asked most about this plant. Can't find yours? Our plant experts are happy to help.

Ask your question

How big does a Calathea warscewiczii get?

The Calathea warscewiczii is one of the larger calatheas and grows into a full floor plant. XXLplant sells it at 90 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. It mainly grows wider as new leaves emerge from the pot.

Where should you place a Calathea warscewiczii?

Keep it in a bright spot, but out of direct sun and not right next to the radiator. It likes a warm room between 18 and 25 °C and higher humidity. A living room or bedroom with an even temperature works well.

How often should you water a Calathea warscewiczii?

Keep the soil evenly and lightly moist, without it becoming waterlogged. Use lukewarm, soft water such as rainwater or filtered water. Hard tap water and drying out cause brown leaf edges.

Is the Calathea warscewiczii toxic to cats and dogs?

No, the Calathea warscewiczii is not toxic to cats and dogs. That makes it a safe large houseplant for a home with pets.

Does the Calathea warscewiczii flower?

Yes, this calathea can flower indoors with creamy white, cone-shaped flower spikes above the leaves. It mainly flowers in spring and summer when it gets enough light and warmth. The plant is usually not in flower on delivery.

Why is my Calathea warscewiczii getting brown edges?

Brown edges and curling leaves are usually caused by dry air, hard water or occasionally drying out. Draughts or a spot near a radiator also play a part. Increase the humidity and use soft water.
