Details

Sago palm with a bulbous trunk and a crown of stiff, glossy fronds. Slow-growing, likes bright light and needs little water.

Species: Cycas revoluta · Height: 45 cm (including nursery pot) · Pot size: ø14 cm

The sago palm (Cycas revoluta) isn't a true palm but an ancient plant group, with a sturdy, bulbous trunk and a crown of stiff, glossy dark green fronds. This specimen is 45 cm tall including the grow pot and stands in a pot of ø14 cm.

It looks lovely on a bright windowsill, a side table or a shelf, and in summer it can also go outside on the patio. It grows slowly and usually produces one new ring of fronds a year, so it keeps its shape for a long time. Place it in bright light with some sun, water moderately and let the soil dry out well in between. It isn't frost-hardy. Note: all parts, especially the seeds, are highly toxic to cats and dogs. Supplied in the grow pot.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

Frequently asked questions about Cycas revoluta

The questions we're asked most about this plant. Can't find yours? Our plant experts are happy to help.

Ask your question

Is a Cycas revoluta hardy?

No, treat a Cycas revoluta as not hardy. In summer it can go outdoors in a bright spot, but overwinter it indoors at a minimum of 10 °C. Bring it inside in good time in autumn.

Can a Cycas revoluta stand outside?

In summer a Cycas revoluta can stand outside without any problem, in a bright spot with some sun. After overwintering indoors, let it get used to outdoor light gradually so the leaves do not scorch. For winter it goes back indoors.

How big does a Cycas revoluta get?

A Cycas revoluta grows very slowly and usually produces no more than one new flush of leaves a year. It takes many years before the trunk gets noticeably taller. XXLplant sells the sago palm at 45 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot.

Is a Cycas revoluta toxic to cats and dogs?

Yes, the Cycas revoluta is highly toxic to cats and dogs. All parts are poisonous, the seeds most of all, and even small amounts can cause serious harm. Make sure it's well out of reach of pets.

Why is my Cycas revoluta getting yellow leaves?

Yellow leaves on a Cycas revoluta are often caused by too much water or too little light. Let the soil dry out well between waterings and give it a bright spot. Old leaves at the bottom that slowly turn yellow are part of normal growth.

How is a Cycas revoluta delivered?

XXLplant ships the Cycas revoluta upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack.
