A Caryota mitis keeps growing steadily indoors to around 2.5 to 3 metres, provided it gets enough light and room in the pot. XXLplant sells the fishtail palm from 110 to 250 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot. It grows from several stems, so it also gets wider.
Where should you put a Caryota mitis?
A Caryota mitis looks its best in a bright spot with indirect light or partial shade. Direct sunlight scorches the leaves. It tolerates a somewhat darker spot, but will grow more slowly there.
How often should you water a Caryota mitis?
Keep the soil of your Caryota mitis lightly moist, but avoid wet feet. In summer you usually water every 5 to 7 days, in winter about once a week. Feel with your finger whether the top layer has dried out slightly before you water again.
Is a Caryota mitis toxic to cats and dogs?
The Caryota mitis contains oxalate crystals, especially in the fruits, which can irritate the mouth and stomach. Indoors the palm rarely bears fruit, but it's wise to keep it out of reach of pets that nibble plants.
Why is my Caryota mitis getting brown leaf tips?
Brown edges on the lower leaves of a Caryota mitis are normal; simply trim them off and the palm will produce new leaves on its own. Lots of brown tips usually point to dry air or irregular watering. Mist the leaves now and then and keep the soil evenly, lightly moist.
How is a Caryota mitis delivered?
Your Caryota mitis travels upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. The largest plants are delivered by a specialist carrier, otherwise by PostNL or DHL. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack. It will usually be with you within 4 to 5 working days.
