Veelgestelde vragen over Allium bulbs Sphaerocephalon round-headed leek
De vragen die we het vaakst krijgen over deze plant. Staat jouw vraag er niet bij? Onze plantexperts helpen je graag.
Stel je vraagWhen do you plant allium bulbs?
Plant allium bulbs in autumn, from October to mid-December. They form roots over winter and then flower from May into July, depending on the variety.
How deep do you plant allium bulbs?
Plant allium bulbs 10 to 15 centimetres deep, with the tip pointing up. Large bulbs such as those of Gladiator or Mount Everest can go up to 20 centimetres deep. Small varieties such as Allium sphaerocephalon can go shallower.
How many allium bulbs do you need per m²?
With a planting distance of 15 to 20 centimetres, you need about 30 allium bulbs per square metre. For the large globe-shaped varieties, 5 to 10 per square metre is enough, while small varieties can be planted closer together. Use the calculator on this page to convert your area into a number of bulbs.
Can you plant allium bulbs in a pot?
Yes, alliums grow well in a deep pot with well-drained soil. Make sure there is a drainage hole, because wet soil makes the bulb rot. The large varieties look best in a wide, heavy pot that will not blow over.
Do alliums come back every year?
Yes, most alliums come back every year when planted in dry, sunny soil. Some varieties also self-seed. In wet, heavy soil they disappear after a few years.
Are alliums poisonous to cats and dogs?
Yes, alliums belong to the onion family and are poisonous to cats and dogs. The bulb, leaves and flower contain substances that can damage red blood cells. Keep the bulbs out of reach until you plant them.
