When should you plant daffodil bulbs?
Daffodil bulbs are planted in autumn, from October to mid-December. The earlier in that period, the more time the bulbs have to grow roots. They then flower from February to May, depending on the variety.
Do daffodils come back every year?
Yes, most daffodils flower year after year, especially in a sunny spot with soil that does not stay wet. Leave the foliage after flowering until it turns yellow. That way the bulb builds up strength for the next spring.
What is the difference between a daffodil and a narcissus?
There is no botanical difference. Narcissus is the Latin name of the genus, and daffodil is the common name, often used for the yellow trumpet types. All daffodils are narcissi, with many varieties in white, yellow and orange.
Can you plant daffodils in a pot?
Yes, short varieties such as Tête-à-Tête in particular do well in pots and containers. Use a pot with a drainage hole and plant the bulbs close together. Keep the soil slightly moist, but never wet.
