Frequently asked questions

Which ornamental grasses stay green in winter?
Japanese sedge (Carex morrowii), lilyturf (Liriope muscari) and blue fescue (Festuca glauca) keep their leaves in winter. Fountain grass and feather reed grass change colour in autumn, but their plumes stay standing into winter.
Which ornamental grass grows in shade?
Japanese sedge and lilyturf grow well in partial shade and also tolerate shade. They are suitable as edging under trees and along paths. Feather grass, blue fescue and fountain grass, on the other hand, need sun.
When should you cut back ornamental grasses?
Deciduous grasses such as fountain grass and feather reed grass are cut back in early spring, before the new leaves appear. Evergreen grasses do not need cutting back. Just remove dead leaves now and then.
How many ornamental grasses do you need per m²?
That depends on how large a variety grows. Low grasses such as blue fescue go closer together than tall ones such as feather reed grass. On the product page you enter the area and see how many plants you need.
