Details

Airy prayer plant with slender green leaves on long stems. Lovely on a sideboard or next to a chair, and not toxic to cats and dogs.

Species: Calathea 'Elgergrass' · Height: 70 cm (including nursery pot) · Pot size: ø17 cm

The Calathea 'Elgergrass' is a prayer plant with slender, green leaves on long stems that together form an airy clump. It's 70 cm tall including the grow pot and sits in a pot of ø17 cm.

Place it on a low plant table, a sideboard, or on the floor next to a chair, and in the evening you'll see the leaves stand up more upright. A bright spot out of direct sun suits it best. Don't let the soil dry out and water preferably with lime-free water or rainwater; slightly more humid air keeps the leaf edges intact. For anyone with cats or dogs, this is a suitable green houseplant, as it's not toxic to them. It's delivered in the grow pot; you choose a decorative pot separately.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

When will your plant arrive?

4–5working days after you order

Frequently asked questions about Calathea 'Elgergrass'

The questions we're asked most about this plant. Can't find yours? Our plant experts are happy to help.

Ask your question

Is the Calathea Elgergrass toxic to cats?

No, the ASPCA lists calatheas as non-toxic to cats and dogs. That makes this prayer plant a safe choice for a home with pets.

How do you care for a Calathea Elgergrass?

Place it in a bright spot out of direct sun and do not let the soil dry out. Ideally water with soft water or rainwater. From April to September, feed every two weeks with houseplant fertiliser at half strength.

Why is my Calathea Elgergrass getting brown edges?

Brown edges are usually caused by dry air, the soil drying out or hard tap water. Ideally water with rainwater or soft water and keep the soil lightly moist. Higher humidity, for example from occasional misting, also helps.

How big does a Calathea Elgergrass get?

The Elgergrass has slender leaves on long stalks and grows in an airy shape. At XXLplant you buy it 70 cm tall in a ø17 cm pot, measured including the nursery pot. That makes it a good fit on a sideboard or as a small floor plant beside a chair.

Where should you put a Calathea Elgergrass?

Choose a bright spot out of direct sun, away from draughts and between 18 and 24 °C. Below 16 °C it gets too cold. A spot with somewhat higher humidity, such as a bathroom with daylight, suits it well.

How is a Calathea Elgergrass delivered?

The plant leaves us upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack, and the largest plants go with a specialist carrier, otherwise PostNL or DHL. It usually arrives within 4 to 5 working days.
