No, a calathea is not toxic to cats and dogs. So the Calathea leopardina is also a safe choice if you have pets. Chewed leaves don't recover, though, so better to keep it a little out of the way.
How do you care for a Calathea leopardina?
Place the calathea in a bright spot out of direct sun and don't let the soil dry out. Use soft water or rainwater and feed every two weeks at half strength from April to September. It likes a temperature between 18 and 24 °C, not below 16 °C.
Why is my calathea getting brown edges?
Brown leaf edges are usually caused by dry air, hard tap water or compost that has dried out. Keep the plant away from radiators and water with rainwater or soft water. A bathroom with daylight is often a good spot.
How big does a Calathea leopardina get?
The Calathea leopardina stays a compact plant. At XXLplant you can buy it at 35 cm tall in a 12 cm pot, measured including the nursery pot. That makes it suitable for a side table, a windowsill without direct sun or the bathroom.
Why is my calathea folding up its leaves?
A calathea moves its leaves with the light: in the evening they fold up and in the morning they open again. That's normal and not a sign of a problem. If the leaves stay rolled up during the day, the soil is often too dry.
How is a Calathea leopardina delivered?
Your plant travels upright in its own plant box, with the leaves in a paper sleeve and the pot held firmly in place. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack. Within the Netherlands, orders placed Sunday to Wednesday usually arrive within 2 to 3 working days.
