No, Fargesia grows in clumps and does not produce long rhizomes. That is why you do not need a root barrier or bamboo barrier, as you would with running bamboo.
How tall does Fargesia rufa grow?
When fully grown, Fargesia rufa reaches about 2 to 2.5 metres. The plants in this package are about 25 cm on delivery, so allow a few years before you have a full hedge.
When should you plant bamboo?
Plant bamboo in spring from March to May or in autumn in September and October. Water generously after planting and keep the soil moist during the first year.
Is Fargesia rufa hardy and evergreen?
Yes, this bamboo is hardy and keeps its leaves all year. In frost and wind the leaves may curl up; they recover when the weather turns milder.
Does Fargesia grow in sun or shade?
Fargesia prefers partial shade. Sun is fine too, provided the soil does not dry out. In deep shade it grows more slowly.
