Pros and cons

According to our plant experts

Details

The Clusia Rosea, also known as the Signature Plant, is a striking houseplant with thick, leathery leaves in a deep, glossy green. If you scratch a name or drawing into a leaf, it remains visible – hence its nickname. A tough, exotic eye-catcher for any modern interior.

Species: Clusia rosea · Pot size: ø24 cm

The autograph tree (Clusia rosea) has thick, leathery, oval leaves in which you can scratch letters with a fingernail that stay visible. That's also where it gets its name from. This specimen is 100 cm tall and stands in a pot of ø24 cm. It suits a living room, hallway or office, and anyone looking for a sturdy houseplant that isn't easily fussy. A bright spot is best, but it also tolerates partial shade; harsh midday sun through glass is best avoided. The thick leaves hold on to moisture, so water moderately and let the soil dry out in between. In winter it needs even less. Delivered in the grow pot, a decorative pot is chosen separately.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

When will your plant arrive?

Frequently asked questions about Clusia rosea

The questions we're asked most about this plant. Can't find yours? Our plant experts are happy to help.

Ask your question

Is a Clusia rosea toxic to cats and dogs?

Sources disagree on whether Clusia rosea is toxic. The sap can be irritating if chewed. So it is best to keep it out of reach of cats and dogs that like to chew plants.

What is the difference between Clusia rosea and Clusia 'Princess'?

Clusia 'Princess' is a compact form of Clusia rosea with smaller leaves. The regular Clusia rosea has larger, thick, leathery leaves. Care is the same for both.

Why is the Clusia rosea called the autograph tree?

The leaves of the Clusia rosea are so thick and firm that a scratch or a name carved into them stays visible. That is where the nickname autograph tree comes from. The plant itself is not bothered by it, but the mark stays in the leaf for good.

Where should you put a Clusia rosea?

A Clusia rosea does well in a bright spot or partial shade, away from harsh midday sun behind glass. It likes room temperature, preferably not below 15 °C. At XXLplant you buy it as a sturdy plant 110 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot.

How often should you water a Clusia rosea?

Water moderately and let the soil dry out between waterings. The thick leaves store moisture, so it can easily cope with drying out now and then. Water less in winter.

How is a Clusia rosea delivered?

Your Clusia is shipped upright in its own plant box, with the leaves in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat, we add a heat pack or cold pack. Within the Netherlands, orders placed Sunday to Wednesday are usually delivered within 2-3 working days.
