Details

The Phoenix Roebelenii on a stem is an elegant dwarf date palm with fine, gracefully overhanging feathery leaves. This compact palm immediately brings a chic, tropical feel into your home or a sheltered outdoor spot.

Species: Phoenix roebelenii · Height: 100 cm (including nursery pot) · Pot size: ø21 cm

The pygmy date palm (Phoenix roebelenii) is a compact palm with fine, feathery leaves that hang gracefully from a short, rough trunk. This specimen is 100 cm tall, measured including the grower's pot, and stands in a pot of ø21 cm, so it also fits in a smaller room or at a bright workspace.

In summer it can go outside on a sheltered balcony or patio. Give it a bright spot; it tolerates some direct sunlight well. Keep the soil slightly moist in summer and water less in winter. It doesn't tolerate frost, so bring it back indoors in autumn. Watch out for the sharp spines at the base of the leaf stalks. The pygmy date palm is not toxic to cats and dogs.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

When will your plant arrive?

4–5working days after you order

Ask your question

How big does a Phoenix roebelenii grow?

The Phoenix roebelenii, also known as the pygmy date palm, stays compact for a palm and grows slowly. It forms a slender trunk with a crown of fine, arching feathery fronds. XXLplant sells the Phoenix from 100 to 230 cm tall, measured including the nursery pot.

Is a Phoenix roebelenii hardy?

No, a Phoenix roebelenii isn't hardy. It can briefly tolerate a light night frost, but protect it with horticultural fleece below -2 °C. If it's in a pot, bring it indoors when there's frost.

Where should you put a Phoenix roebelenii?

A Phoenix roebelenii grows best in the sun, with as much direct light as possible. Partial shade is also fine, but it will grow more slowly. In summer it can go outside on a sunny patio.

How often should you water a Phoenix roebelenii?

Keep the soil of a Phoenix roebelenii slightly moist, but never let the roots stand in water. Outdoors in warm weather that can mean watering daily, in winter roughly once a week. Indoors the soil usually dries out more slowly than outside.

Does a Phoenix roebelenii have spines?

Yes, there are long, sharp spines at the base of the leaf stalks of the Phoenix roebelenii. Take care when unpacking and moving it, and do not place it right next to a walkway or play area.

How is a Phoenix roebelenii delivered?

XXLplant ships the Phoenix upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. Large palms go with a specialist carrier. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack.
