Details

Evergreen, narrow upright shrub with glossy leaves, a strong alternative to box. Suitable for low hedges, edges and beds in sun or shade.

Species: Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' · Pot: ø9 cm · Height: 10-25 cm

Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' is an evergreen shrub with glossy, fresh green leaves and a narrow, upright habit. It is often used as an alternative to box, because it can be clipped into shape just as well.

Plant it as a low hedge along a path or patio, as an edging around a bed or in a planter by the front door. Without pruning it stays compact, up to about 80 centimetres. It grows in sun and partial shade, also tolerates shade, and is undemanding about soil. All parts are toxic if eaten. You receive young plants in a 9 centimetre pot, 10 to 25 centimetres tall.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

Veelgestelde vragen over Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire'

De vragen die we het vaakst krijgen over deze plant. Staat jouw vraag er niet bij? Onze plantexperts helpen je graag.

Stel je vraag

How many Euonymus 'Green Spire' do you plant per metre of hedge?

For a low hedge, plant about 4 plants per linear metre. For a closed area, keep 30 to 35 centimetres apart, around 9 plants per square metre. The calculator on this page works out the number for you.

Is Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire' a good box alternative?

Yes, it has similar compact, evergreen leaves and is easy to clip into shape. It is not a host plant for the box tree moth, which can strip box hedges bare.

Where does Euonymus 'Green Spire' grow best?

It grows in sun, partial shade and shade, and is undemanding about soil. Avoid spots where water stands for a long time.

Is Euonymus japonicus hardy and evergreen?

It is evergreen and keeps its leaves in winter. In a normal Dutch winter it is hardy. In severe frost and cold wind the leaves can be damaged; they grow back in spring.

When should you prune Euonymus 'Green Spire'?

Prune it before the end of March or around midsummer, at the end of June. At those times it recovers quickly and the shape stays crisp. Without pruning it also stays compact.
