These blackberry plants (Rubus fruticosus) are organically grown and come in a ø13 cm pot. On delivery they are about 20 cm tall. That is a young plant: on a wire, fence or garden screen the canes grow to about 2 metres.

In summer the blackberry flowers with white to pale pink blossoms that attract bees and other beneficial insects, followed by the blackberries. Place the plants in a sunny or partially shaded spot, in well-drained soil. Once established it can cope with a drier spell, but for a good harvest water regularly in summer. The plant is hardy and keeps some of its leaves in winter.

How many blackberry plants do you need?

A blackberry spreads wide, so plant them 1.5 to 2 metres apart along a fence or wire. For a family, 2 or 3 plants are often enough for a generous harvest. You choose the number yourself, in steps of 3 or 6 plants.

When do you plant a blackberry?

Plant blackberries in spring from March to May or in autumn in September and October. Water well after planting so the roots make contact with the soil.

Where do you put a blackberry plant?

In a sunny or partially shaded spot, in well-drained soil. Give the canes something to grow along, such as a fence, wire or garden screen. The more sun, the sweeter the blackberries.
