The Philodendron dossier
Philodendron
The Philodendron grows in the rainforests of South America, where most species climb trees as climbers. His name literally means tree friend.
The family is extremely versatile: from compact shrub forms to climbers with leaves as large as a hole-in-the-wall plant.

Placement and light
A Philodendron feels at home in a bright spot without direct sun, but will also settle for partial shade. The darker the spot, the smaller the new leaf.
Keep the temperature above 15 degrees. Climbing species appreciate a moss stick; which stimulates larger leaves.
Water and feeding
Allow the top centimeters of potting soil to dry before watering again: about once a week in summer, less in winter. The Philodendron forgives a forgotten watering more easily than wet feet.
Feed every two weeks from April to September and wipe the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth.
Is something wrong with your Philodendron?
Yellow leaves indicate too much water, drooping leaves indicate thirst. Small new leaves mean too little light or nutrition. Drops on the leaf edges are harmless. Spider mites can appear in dry air, although the Philodendron is less sensitive to it than many other tropical plants.
Repot the Philodendron every two years in the spring in a pot that is one size larger, with airy, humus-rich potting soil. Immediately give climbers a longer moss stick. You can find the matching decorative pots directly on this page.
Toxic to pets?
The Philodendron contains calcium oxalate and is poisonous to cats and dogs. Chewing the leaf irritates the mouth and stomach. Place the plant out of reach of nibbling pets or choose an animal-friendly alternative.
A Philodendron grows smoothly with warmth and light; climbers visibly make progress in a season. Each new leaf grows larger as the plant climbs higher.
The Philodendron Green Wonder grows full and wide with large, glossy leaves. How big it gets depends on light and pot size; with enough indirect light it keeps growing well. You'll find the height on delivery with the product, measured including the nursery pot.
Where should you put a Philodendron Green Wonder?
A spot with bright, indirect light or partial shade is ideal. It also tolerates a shadier spot, but will grow more slowly there. Direct sun can scorch the leaves, so keep it out of harsh midday sun.
How often should you water a Philodendron Green Wonder?
Keep the compost lightly moist and let the top layer dry out between waterings. In spring and summer that works out at about once a week, less in winter. Don't leave water standing in the bottom of the pot, as that causes root rot.
Is the Philodendron Green Wonder toxic to cats and dogs?
Yes, like all philodendrons the Green Wonder is toxic to cats and dogs. The sap contains calcium oxalate crystals that irritate the mouth and throat. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
Why is my Philodendron Green Wonder getting yellow leaves?
The odd yellow lower leaf is normal, especially in the first weeks after moving to a new spot. If several leaves turn yellow, the plant is usually getting too much water. Let the soil dry out more before you water again.
How is a Philodendron Green Wonder delivered?
The plant leaves us upright in its own plant box, with the crown in a paper sleeve and the pot secured. In frost or heat we add a heat pack or cold pack, and the largest plants go with a specialist carrier, otherwise PostNL or DHL. It usually arrives within 4 to 5 working days.
