Details

Ponytail palm of 60 cm with a thick trunk base and a tuft of long, narrow leaves. Stores water and is non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Species: Beaucarnea recurvata · Height: 60 cm (including nursery pot) · Pot size: ø19 cm

The ponytail palm (Beaucarnea recurvata) is recognisable by its thick, bulbous trunk base in which it stores water and its long, narrow leaves that hang down like a ponytail. This plant is 60 cm tall including nursery pot and comes in a pot of ø19 cm. It originally grows in dry regions of Mexico.

Its shape stands out well on a sunny windowsill, a side table by the window or a desk in the office. It is suitable for people with little time, as it can go without water for a long time. Give it as much light as possible, including sun, and let the soil dry out completely between waterings. The ponytail palm is listed by the ASPCA as non-toxic to cats and dogs. It comes in the nursery pot; choose a decorative pot separately.

Delivery

Shipping a two-metre plant takes more than a box and some tape. That's why we do it differently from an ordinary online shop.

How your plant arrives in one piece

Fresh from the greenhouse
Your plant does not sit in a warehouse for weeks. The grower only takes it out of the greenhouse after you order and prepares it straight away.
Packed securely
In a box made for plants. Plant and soil are secured and a protective sleeve keeps the leaves intact, so nothing shifts on the way.
Protected from heat and frost
Is it very hot or freezing outside? Then we add a cold pack or heat pack to the box, so the weather doesn't affect your plant on the way.
The right carrier for every size
Smaller plants are delivered by PostNL or DHL. The very largest plants travel upright on a pallet with a specialist carrier.
You know exactly when it arrives
As soon as your plant is on its way, you receive track & trace by email, so you can make sure someone is home and, for a large plant, someone to help carry it in.

Frequently asked questions about Beaucarnea recurvata

The questions we're asked most about this plant. Can't find yours? Our plant experts are happy to help.

Ask your question

How large is this ponytail palm?

This ponytail palm is 60 cm tall including nursery pot and comes in a pot of ø19 cm. A Beaucarnea grows slowly indoors; the trunk base becomes thicker over the years.

Where should you place a ponytail palm?

Place it in the brightest spot you have, for example in front of a south- or west-facing window. Direct sunlight is not a problem. In a dark corner, the leaves become limp and pale.

How often should you water a ponytail palm?

The bulbous trunk base stores water, so only water when the soil is completely dry. In summer, once every two to three weeks is usually enough; in winter, even less. Too much water causes the trunk base to rot.

Is a ponytail palm toxic to cats and dogs?

No, Beaucarnea recurvata is listed by the ASPCA as non-toxic to cats and dogs. A cat playing with the long leaves can damage them, however.

Why is my ponytail palm getting brown leaf tips?

Brown tips are often caused by dry air or irregular watering. You can trim them off at an angle. If the trunk base becomes soft, the plant is getting too much water.
